2011 is almost over and we here at SBC thought we’d take the opportunity to think back and review the musical year that was 2k11. Each of the contributors here on the blog will have their own post to share their years best in the different categories, but I’m first up.

I always have a hard time coming up with these kind of lists so it took me quite a while to put this together, but now when it’s done I’m satisfied with it (even though I’ve cheated a little here and there) so without further ado – here’s my best of 2011:

Best Album

Jamie Woon – Mirrorwriting / Aeroplane – In Flight Entertainment Compilation

Best EP

Burial – Street Halo EP / Julio Bashmore – Everyone Needs A Theme Tune EP

Best Track

SBTRKT – Wildfire / Julio Bashmore – Battle For The Middle you

Best Remix

Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers ( The Magician Remix) / Mark Ronson – Record Collection (Perseus Remix)

Best Live Performance

I’ll have to cheat here and pick the entirety of the Way Out West festival in Gothenburg. This is how a festival should be. An amazing line-up with everything from massive world known acts such as Prince, Kanye West and Tiesto to smaller up and comers like Jamie Woon played on the main festival area during  the day and after that the night clubs took over, delivering Dj-sets from people such as Felix Cartal and Style Of Eye. The festival isn’t only great because of the music. The great vibe all over the festival and the nice people also made this one of the greatest experiences of the year for me. And oh – the fact that I got to wake up in a nice apartment, have a full breakfast and a shower every morning rather than waking up in a tent on a muddy field also enhanced the experience quite a lot for me. I’d strongly recommend anyone that has the chance to go to WOW next year to do so, I promise you you won’t be disappointed.

Biggest Disappointment

That Justice album. Don’t get we wrong, it’s good, but it sadly didn’t blow me away like Cross did the first time I heard it back in 2007. I was expecting more.

Looking forward to in 2012

That Daft Punk album. I want to believe.

2011 has been great – Now I look forward to see what 2012 has to offer
